Firearm Safety Successes
Saratoga Safe Storage
C.I.V. is celebrating its recent win by getting the Saratoga City Council to successfully pass the Safe Storage ordinance! We began by listening to the concerned community voices around us after the Las Vegas and Parkland mass shootings. With the community’s concerns and fears staying with us, we spoke with the local Saratoga Ministerial Association and organized a petition that has now been signed by 90+ faith leaders from all around the Bay Area. This petition voices the collective opinion of leaders, from all religious backgrounds, who value the sanctity of life and public safety by supporting firearm safety ordinances. We took this petition to local assemblymembers and local mayors and vice-mayors to see what could be done.
Through the Ministerial Association, we brought the petition to the Saratoga City Council. Saratoga has been known as a safe community, but not free of gun violence. C.I.V. organized an impressive turnout at multiple city council meetings to show overwhelming support for the ordinance. We are grateful for the support and encouragement of the inspirational Gifford’s Law Center who have been fighting for safer communities for many years now. We would like to thank the Saratoga City Council and Mayor Bernal for their courage and willingness to stand up and fight for our safety.
