Guns in America

Firearm Safety is about preventing the all too common tragedies that communities must grapple with. Firearm Safety is not just about addressing the mass shootings, it extends but is not limited to suicide and domestic violence.

Mass Shootings

The chart reveals a grim picture. The number of casualties from mass shootings is increasing at an alarming rate with no signs of slowing down. They also know no boundaries. Workplaces, schools, concerts, and churches have all been targets of these mass shooting incidents, and still politicians have not done enough to prevent them. Firearms not safely stored have time and time again been used to commit terrible acts of mass violence at schools.

Suicide

Suicide by firearm spans all ages, with a 60% increase in firearm suicides by minors ages 10 and older between 2007 and 2014. Additionally in Santa Clara County, more than 40% of the residents older than 65 who have committed suicide in recent years have done so with firearms. On top of all that, access to unsecured firearms in the house only increases the risk of suicide by firearm in children and teens.

Domestic Violence

Nothing more needs to be added to the fact that women are 5 times more likely to be killed in a domestic violence situation if their partner owns a firearm.
